Vee Phuong Biography

Vee Phuong’s love for music started after performing on stage for the very first time in front of a large refugee crowd in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the tender age of 3. She was a shy little girl despite sharing a household with 7 other siblings. However, the moment she stepped onto the stage, a very high energy and bubbly side of her would emerge. Vee was then hooked to the adrenaline rush she got from performing. It wasn’t only her that noticed. Nguyen Hung’s younger sister took Vee Phuong and her older sister, Chan Dung, under her wing. With a little guidance in choreography and vocal training, they were soon little stars that stole the show around the island.

The beautiful days in Malaysia soon ended when her entire family were accepted into the US with the help of her father’s siblings residing in California. It was later noted that Vee Phuong’s best childhood memories were the ones formed in Malaysia. When asked why she replied, “Every day was a beautiful memory. All I remember was the sun shining on my face every morning, swimming in clear tropical water, and feeling the cool breeze running through my hair after the swim. There wasn’t any war in sight. I was a regular kid running around with my friends without a care in the world. It was truly heaven on earth.”

While settling into the new environment in California, Vee once again became the shy little girl that kept to herself. Her father noticed how miserable she was and decided to give her a small radio to cheer her up. From that day on, Vee and the radio were inseparable. Months went by and next thing you know, she was singing along to Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey before she could even converse in English. That was the point in Vee Phuong’s life where she developed a passion for American music.

Uneasy with the violence in schools in Orange County, Vee’s father decided to relocate the entire family to Washington. Throughout her years in Washington, Vee was involved in many events for her school and for the community. She continued demonstrating her love for music and dance. As if that wasn’t enough to satisfy her desire to perform, she quickly accepted an invitation to be lead singer in the local band around town that did community shows and weddings. Her band days were short lived when her parents thought she was too young to be singing. Vee was devastated, but respected their wishes and stopped singing.

It wasn’t until recently that Vee started singing again. With the support from her loving parents and friends, she continued where she left off at. The Seattle music scene is one of the busiest, with concerts and weddings happening on a weekly basis. Vee quickly became one of most recognized singers around Washington because of her enthusiastic personality on stage. She is known to always carry a smile regardless of her surroundings.

Vee Phuong is currently working with Tinh Productions. One of the youngest singers on the scene, her style and voice appeals to the younger audience because it is something they can relate to. Although not always sure of the genre of music she best fits in, she pointed out to us that it is very hard getting respect from the older generation due to her style of music, at the same time trying to make it enjoyable for the younger audience. If you get the chance to talk to her or have been to one of her shows, you will see why she is such a great addition to the Vietnamese music scene. And can you imagine? Her career is just starting.
